Where most commonly seen promotional records have white labels affixed to them, the four Capitol promotional 45’s are somewhat unique in their appearance because they are printed on a yellow/green colored stock that is easily identifiable. However, the counterfeiters are aware of this and made singles that are a close match except those labels exhibit a more yellowish hue than yellow/green of the legit copies. Side by side comparisons make this much easier if you have good lighting and color vision. The other identifier is a small asterisk “*” in the trail-off groove. Magnification may be required to see this small marking but where the originals are machine stamped, the fakes are hand-etched. Inspect the record for inferior vinyl quality and printing as well. |
